JULY ARTISTS:
WEAVER AND SCULPTOR

During the month of July, the Bennington Arts Guild, will feature the work
of two member artists: the weaver, Paula LaPorte of Shaftsbury, Vermont and sculptor Tom Longtin of Bennington, Vermont.

kautz-laport_galaxy mobile Paula Kautz-LaPorte's focus is "Weaving with Wire." Along with "Galaxy", the four-foot diameter circle formed with copper and silverwire, LaPorte will exhibii the Drysdale Series, which combines some local history along with art. This series consists of five small table baskets, five small wall baskets, two medium sized bowl baskets, one larger storage basket, and an 18" dancing wheel. All of these creations have been formed and woven from wire which LaPorte retrieved from the construction dumpster at the recently rehabilitated Drysdale building (which for many years served as a department store)
on South Street in Bennington.

longtin_sawtricycle Tom Longtin created "Scrapcycle", a tricycle created from recycled metal parts. Also he was inspired by the Vermont Art Council's "Art Fits" puzzle theme, will display a chess board made up of interlocking puzzle pieces in contrasting wood. Longtin uses computer software to design his art, then with a laser cutter, fabricates the inlaid puzzle pieces used on the board, as well as the pieces which make up his 3D puzzle pieces. Also on display is his 3D sculptural piece called "Super Rube," and a hardboard form supporting a piece of clear glass, a prototype proof of a table which designed to be made of wood.
