RAY MULLINEAUX

Although Ray Mullineaux
calls himself a "cabinetmaker" that does not fully describe the beauty
and range of his creations made of wood. Ray studied woodworking
under
Ian Kirby. He now builds custom furniture and cabinetry in his
own
studio in North Bennington, Vermont. His custom work can be found in
homes throughout the area.
Ray
practices an aesthetic that balances the organic against the industrial
preference for the straight and prefers color and texture contrast.
These interests vie with a commitment to the functional. His work has a
distinctively contemplative nature because it often results from
extensive reflection on the work as it progresses. |

"The
dance of the breeze on the pond beneath my window asks me how to put
that spirit into a wood surface. Knowledge of the techniques of the
craft poses the question of how to respond to that knowledge in a fresh
way: the craftsman finding the spirit of the dance in the materials and
techniques of the craft. "
