"For me, the process of
painting is both a meditation on, -- and thanksgiving for
-- the natural beauty that surrounds us all. It is this quiet
sense of
awe that I wish to convey through my paintings."

Judy Kniffin paints with watercolors
and
with oils, exploring her natural
surroundings — the woodlands, mountains, and waters, corners of her
gardens, and streets in her towns. Her style is representational,
while always teasing out the rich colors and patterns that a cursory
glance at nature often overlooks.
The rendering of water, in all its
layered complexities, offers an especially engrossing challenge.
In Judith's oils, an
initial covering of warm earth tones
underlays the painting, peeking through in places and giving a rich
warmth to the colors painted over it. Her compositions draw you
into
its space, inviting your eyes to roam through its spatial planes and
over its forms — and always, to revel in color.
She pursued studio painting at Skidmore College in New York, the
Silvermine Guild Art Center in Connecticut, and the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
