The
pieces I am showing at the Guild
represent a side of my work that is both more playful and functional. I
enjoy
making these smaller pieces because they are quicker to make, more
people can
own them and use them in their day-to-day lives.
Much
of my other work involves the
construction of larger, kinetic pieces. They often use motors or hand
cranks
that move elements of the sculpture. However, both bodies of my work
come out
of the same spirit of using found objects and creating pieces that are
fun to
look at and to use. Making these smaller pieces allows me to step back
from the
mentally arduous process that goes into the large sculpture. In these I
can
employ a more expressionistic style.
